Natural skincare and deodorant for girls: Frequently asked questions
Starting deodorant, or choosing a first body mist, brings up a lot of questions. Here are straight answers from our team and from Amanda, our founder, NHS paramedic and mum of five.

Dazzling Diva deodorant FAQs
What is Dazzling Diva natural roll-on deodorant?
Dazzling Diva is our multi-award winning natural roll-on deodorant, made just for girls rather than adapted from an adult product. It's 98.71% natural, aluminium-free, vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologically tested, with a quick-drying, non-sticky formula and a Parma Violet and Peony scent. It won a Vegan Choice Award, a Junior Design Award, and was a London Packaging Week finalist. Shop our award-winning Dazzling Diva deodorant.
What age can girls start using deodorant?
There's no set age. Girls can start to notice body odour from around 7 or 8 as part of normal growth and early puberty, so the best guide is what you notice after PE or at the end of a school day. Dazzling Diva is designed for girls from around 7 upwards. Our guides to what age girls should start wearing deodorant and choosing a kids safe deodorant explain more.
Is Dazzling Diva really a natural deodorant?
Yes. It's 98.71% natural and nature-derived. The main ingredients are diatomaceous earth (a natural mineral that absorbs moisture), caprylic/capric triglyceride (from coconut) and hydrogenated olive oil unsaponifiables, which keep skin soft. We list the other 1.29% openly in the next answer.
What's in the other 1.29%?
We'd rather tell you than leave you guessing. The small part that isn't nature-derived is a gentle preservative system (phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin), triethyl citrate to neutralise odour, undecane and tridecane (lightweight emollients that help it dry quickly), and two fragrance components, alpha-isomethylionone and citronellol, which have to be declared separately on the label. Every ingredient is approved for cosmetic use and included at safe levels. Any water-based product needs a preservative, or it grows bacteria and mould within weeks. The full ingredients list is on the product page.
Is Dazzling Diva aluminium-free?
Yes, completely. Instead of blocking sweat with aluminium salts, it uses diatomaceous earth to absorb moisture. Our post on the benefits of an aluminium-free deodorant for kids explains why that suits young skin.
How does it control odour without blocking sweat?
Odour comes from bacteria interacting with sweat, not from sweat itself. Dazzling Diva uses diatomaceous earth to absorb moisture and triethyl citrate to neutralise odour, so underarms stay fresh without an antiperspirant active. Sweating is normal and healthy for growing bodies, and the formula lets it happen. See our guide to antiperspirant vs deodorant for kids.
Will it stop my daughter sweating?
No. Dazzling Diva is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so it manages odour rather than stopping sweat.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Our natural deodorant has been dermatologically tested and was made with young, delicate skin in mind. It is free from aluminium, drying alcohols, parabens and SLS/SLES. As with any new product, we suggest a patch test first: a small amount on the inside of the wrist or elbow for a day. If irritation occurs, stop using it, and speak to your pharmacist or GP if you're unsure.
Does the deodorant contain alcohol?
No drying alcohols such as ethanol or alcohol denat. Some ingredients have "alcohol" in their name, like cetearyl alcohol, but these are plant-derived fatty alcohols that soften and condition skin rather than dry it. (Our body mist is different. See the body mist FAQs below.)
Is Dazzling Diva free from PFAS ("forever chemicals")?
Yes. Dazzling Diva deodorant is free from PFAS, as well as parabens and aluminium.
Why is there fragrance in the deodorant?
A deodorant a girl doesn't like is a deodorant that stays in the drawer, so we added a light, age-appropriate Parma Violet and Peony scent that girls love. It's a small part of the formula, and the fragrance allergens that must be declared are listed on the label. If your daughter's skin is very reactive, patch test first.
How do I use Dazzling Diva deodorant?
Apply a thin, even layer to clean, dry underarms each morning and let it dry before getting dressed. For a full freshness routine, deodorant first, then a spritz of the matching body mist to finish.
Will it leave marks on clothes?
No, our deodorant has a quick-drying, non-sticky formula designed to leave no residue on skin or clothing. Give it a moment to dry before getting dressed.
Is there an adjustment period with natural deodorant?
If someone is switching from a conventional antiperspirant, the body can take 2 to 4 weeks to adjust to sweating naturally. That's normal and temporary. If it's your daughter's first deodorant, there's nothing to switch from.
Why choose a natural deodorant for kids?
Because it focuses on odour control rather than stopping sweat, and it can be a gentler first step into daily hygiene during early puberty, when sweating is normal and changing. It also gives young girls a product made just for them, not a watered-down adult one. Read more on the benefits of natural deodorant for kids.
Dazzling Diva body mist FAQs
What is Dazzling Diva natural body mist?
Dazzling Diva body mist is a light, refreshing body spray for girls: the finishing touch to a freshness routine. It has a delicate violet and peony scent, the same signature scent as our deodorant, and a soft, non-sticky finish. Our body mist is vegan, cruelty-free and dermatologically tested. Meet the body mist.
Can the body mist be used instead of deodorant?
No. The body mist is for fragrance and a feeling of freshness, not odour control. For underarm freshness, use it alongside our award-winning Dazzling Diva deodorant: deodorant first, body mist to finish.
What age is the body mist suitable for?
It's designed for girls from around age 7 upwards, the same as the deodorant, and plenty of adults like it too. It's made to be light and skin-close rather than heavy like a perfume. As with any scented product, patch test first.
What does it smell like?
A delicate, light, floral violet and peony scent: feminine, fresh and fun, and the same as Dazzling Diva deodorant, so the two work together.
How do I use the body mist?
Spritz onto clean, dry skin after showering or before getting dressed, holding the bottle 15 to 20cm from the body. For a more noticeable scent, spray onto pulse points: wrists and neck. You can also mist lightly over clothes. Don't spray it on the face, delicate areas or broken skin, and avoid contact with eyes (if it happens, rinse with warm water).
Does the body mist contain alcohol?
Yes. Unlike our deodorant, the body mist contains denatured alcohol (alcohol denat.), which helps it dry quickly and leave a non-sticky finish. Because of that, we recommend not using it on the face or broken skin, and patch testing first.
What's in the body mist?
The key ingredients are witch hazel water, betaine (a plant-based moisturiser from sugar beet), lemon peel oil, gluconolactone (a very gentle skin-smoothing ingredient) and our violet and peony fragrance. The full ingredients list is on the product page. The lemon peel oil and fragrance contain limonene, which has to be declared as a fragrance allergen on the label.
Is the body mist natural?
It's built around plant-derived ingredients like witch hazel water, betaine and lemon peel oil along with cosmetic ingredients that keep the formula stable, quick-drying and non-sticky. The full ingredients list is on the product page so you can decide for yourself.
What's the difference between a body mist and a body spray?
The two names are often used interchangeably. Generally a body mist is lighter and more water-based, while a body spray contains more alcohol and dries faster. Dazzling Diva aims for the lightness of a mist with the quick-drying feel of a spray.
Is a body mist better for kids than perfume?
A body mist is lighter and less concentrated than a perfume, so it's a gentler way to start with fragrance. Our guide to body mist vs perfume for girls explains the difference.
How long does the scent last, and can it be used every day?
It's designed to leave a delicate, skin-close scent throughout the day, and it's made for daily use. Reapply whenever you want a fresh burst, and spritz pulse points for a longer-lasting effect.
About blossom & beau:
Who founded blossom & beau?
blossom & beau was founded by Amanda Johnson, an NHS paramedic with 20 years' service and a mum of five. In early 2023, after a school day that included PE, she realised her 7-year-old daughter needed a deodorant. She found nothing made for girls her age on the high street, and online options cost as much as £20 a bottle. So she made her own. Read our story.
What products does blossom & beau make?
Two so far, designed to work as a pair: Dazzling Diva natural roll-on deodorant (60ml, £7.95) and Dazzling Diva natural body mist (100ml, £9.95), both with the same violet and peony scent. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok to see what comes next.
Has blossom & beau won any awards?
Yes, despite launching our brand at the end of 2025, we have won multiple awards, including:.
-
Vegan Choice Award winner 2026, for Dazzling Diva natural roll-on deodorant.
-
Small Business Sunday winner (Theo Paphitis's #SBS small-business initiative), August 2026.

Where has blossom & beau been featured?
We've been featured in the Junior magazine, the Warminster Journal, Your Coffee Break, The Bath Magazine, Bath & Wiltshire Parent and TBE Bath & Somerset to name just a few publications.
Are blossom & beau products vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes. Both our deodorant and body mist products are 100% vegan, with no animal-derived ingredients, and developed with a cruelty-free ethos: neither the finished products nor their ingredients are tested on animals. Dazzling Diva deodorant won a Vegan Choice Award in 2026.
What do your products leave out?
Neither product contains aluminium, parabens or SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl sulphate), and you can check that against the full ingredients list on each product page. Dazzling Diva deodorant is also free from drying alcohols and PFAS.
Are the products dermatologically tested?
Yes, all our products are dermatologically tested and made with young skin in mind. As with any new product, we suggest a patch test first, and stopping use if irritation occurs.
Is blossom & beau a "clean" or "non-toxic" brand?
"Clean" and "non-toxic" aren't legally defined in cosmetics, so we don't use them as labels. We'd rather show you what's in each product: every ingredient is approved for cosmetic use at safe levels, the ingredients lists are on the product pages, and the part of the deodorant that isn't nature-derived is explained openly in the deodorant FAQs.
Is blossom & beau a sustainable brand?
We try to do right by the planet and we're honest about where we're still working on it. Dazzling Diva bottles contain a minimum of 35% recycled plastic, all packaging boxes are FSC-certified cardboard, and the roll-on format means no aerosol propellants. Most ingredients, packaging and printing come from suppliers within 10 miles of our base in Warminster. We're not fully plastic-free and we don't offer refills yet. Read more on our sustainability page.
Where are blossom & beau products made?
In England. We support local as much as we can: most of our ingredients, packaging and printing come from within a 10-mile radius of our base in Warminster, Wiltshire, and the bottles are filled just over the border in Dorset.
Are blossom & beau products just for kids?
They're made just for girls, from around age 7 upwards, and designed specifically for young skin. The formulas are gentle enough for any young person who needs them, and plenty of adults use them too.
